Two in custody after police killing

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the gunning down of a policeman at his North Sophia home late Monday night.

This is according to the police who on Tuesday confirmed that the dead man was Constable Michael Cumberbatch, 30.  

“Investigations have revealed that Michael Cumberbatch was at home, when he was confronted by the perpetrator enquiring about one ‘Quacy’. An argument ensued, during which he was shot to his chest. The perpetrator then escaped,” a police release stated.


Cumberbatch was a member of the Tactical Services Unit. His distruaght mother, Jacqueline Cumberbatch, had to be comforted by friends at the GPHC where he was transported.

Several police ranks and officers gathered at the hospital following the shooting including “A” Division Commander Derrick Josiah. 

Cumberbatch is survived by a wife and child.
