The damaged aircraft.

A light Cessna aircraft skidded off the Aishalton airstrip on landing and crashed into a fence Friday but the authorities appeared unaware of the incident.

Reports are that around 4pm Friday , the aircraft , a Cessna U206A , bearing United States registration N6HQ,  was shuttling between Aishaton and Gunn’s Strip in the Region 9 area when it approached the latter location for landing.

The aircraft is operated by the Remote Area Medical (RAM) humanitarian mission. Reports are that on landing , the main landing gear of the plane suffered a blow out , resulting in it skidding off the runway towards a nearby fence. The propeller and other parts of the plane were damaged during the impact.

Sources noted that the pilot and four passengers  on board sustained mainly minor injuries but they were nevertheless taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) ,Zulficar Mohammed was unaware of the incident when contacted yesterday and reports suggest that the operators of the aircraft may not have reported the incident to the authorities as mandatory requirement stipulate.
