Caricom youth ambassadors for Russia

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Youth Ambassadors, Tamira Browne (St. Vincent and the Grenadines), Patrice Harris (St. Kitts and Nevis) and Jamonn Roberts (Barbados) are scheduled to participate in the International Youth Forum Seliger 2013 from July 21st – 28th 2013 in Moscow, Russia.

“This opportunity is as a result of the partnership with the CARICOM Secretariat, the United Nations Development Programme Office for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and Ministries of Youth,” the Caricom Secretariat said in a statement.

Seliger 2013 is an international project aimed at uniting the world leaders of tomorrow. The CARICOM Youth Ambassadors would join other exceptional individuals from around the world to build an international network as the Forum is geared to uniting active young people to examine developing global trends. It is expected that this would enable young leaders to identify opportunities for growth and development within their communities, countries and the international sphere.

International Youth Forum Seliger features cutting-edge training and insights delivered across a range of courses within four blocks: Politics and International Relations; Growth and Sustainable Development; Innovation and Enterprise and Creative Media and Public Relations. The sessions are based on current realities and are delivered by internationally renowned experts.
The main goal of the Forum is to build an international community of young people based on the principles of peaceful coexistence, the promotion of personal and democratic liberties and recognition of cultural diversity.

The organisers have set a number of objectives which include:
•    Empowering global youth, by giving them a greater say in the globalizing world;
•    Encouraging young people to find solutions to global challenges: poverty, social conflict, environmental degradation;
•    Fostering cooperation among young people in social, political and economic life;
•    Giving participants real opportunities to put their leadership skills into practice;
•    Helping and supporting young people in team building and fundraising;
•    Examining the main trends and tendencies in global business, science, culture, mass media, NGO
      communities;
•    Offer young people the chance to meet and interact with highly qualified specialists ready to support them in
      turning their project ideas into reality; and
•    Helping them embrace diversity in delivering practical projects.

One of the main outcomes is to foster an active social position among young people worldwide as putting these objectives into practice will help strengthen social consciousness among young people while also attaining the Forum’s main goal. International Youth Forum Seliger 2013 offers intellectual resources that can be utilised to build projects now and in the future.

Upon return to their respective CARICOM territories, local and regional organisations, the Ambassadors are responsible for reporting on the Forum to the various stakeholders and would also be working on projects that would build the capacity of regional youth through the utilisation of their increased competences and networks.
