A 25-year old female American student was Wednesday afternoon arrested after 4.5 kilogrammes of cocaine were found in her suitcase.

Briana Ashley was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines (CAL) flight to New York when Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) agents discovered the illicit substance in a false bottom of her suitcase.

She was arrested, questioned and eventually transported to Georgetown where the substance was expected to be weighed and a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking instituted.

The woman, who lives in Guyana, has visited the United States at least five times for this year.
