Miner beaten to death

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

A miner, who is also a shopkeeper, was beaten to death in the Cuyuni area where the suspect is still at large.

The dead man has been identified as 38-year old Roy Greenidge of Bartica. The incident occurred Monday night at Far Back, Cuyuni.

His brother, Trevor, told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that Roy’s left foot was broken and the back and middle of his head bashed in.

Since Roy left for the interior in April, he had not returned home.

The body was brought out to a Bartica Mortuary around 7 PM. Up to 9:30 PM, a man claiming to be an eyewitness was being interviewed by investigators at the Bartica Police Station.

The circumstances that led to the killing were not immediately known.

The suspect, whose alias has been given as ‘Bow Foot’, was said to be still at Far Back.

Investigators are expected to arrive in the area on Wednesday in the hope of capturing the suspect and interviewing other persons.
