Last Updated on Wednesday, 24 June 2015, 15:10 by GxMedia

An unidentified man was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with a policeman and soldier.

A man, who was in the group with the policeman and soldier, was seriously injured.

Police said that at about 2320h. last night Tuesday June 23, 2015, a group of persons, including a policeman and a member of the Guyana Defence Force, were at the Butcher Pool Hall at Middleton Street, Georgetown, when two men approached and discharged rounds in their direction.

Paul Chow, 31 years, of Railway Line, Kitty, who was in the group, was hit to his chest and right side jaw.

The policeman and the soldier returned fire and one of the armed men was hit about his body, while his accomplice managed to escape.

The man, who is so far unidentified, was taken to the GPHC where he was pronounced DOA. The body is at the GPHC Mortuary.

He is of African descent with Rastafarian hairstyle, appears to be in his 40s, fair complexion, about 5’9″ in height, medium build and has a tattoo on his back marked “Spine Doctor”.

Paul Chow has been admitted to hospital.

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the incident.
