Police spy chief says records of collection of Mohameds’ US extradition documents discarded

Head of the Guyana Police Force’s Special Branch department, Senior Superintendent Prem Narine was Friday ordered to produce the operational records from the Brickdam Police Station for October 31, 2025, as the prosecution sought to establish the authenticity of United States (US) extradition records for Guyanese businessmen, Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed.

However, Mr Narine was quick to point out that those records would not contain information about activities before the arrest of the Mohameds on October 31, 2025.

Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman ordered Mr Narine is expected to produce the records at the continuation of the hearing on September 7. He said he would have to contact the station sergeant of the Brickdam Police Station.

Mr Narine said Deputy Crime Chief for Regional Division ‘4 A’, Assistant Superintendent Rodwell Sarabo was  present with Mr Narine “most of the time” on October 31. He said he was unaware of Mr Sarabo doing anything at the court or the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Earlier during Friday’s hearing  Mr Narine scuttled efforts by the Mohameds’ defence lawyer, Siand Dhurjon to request records about the collection of extradition records by stating that they were disposed of.

Mr Dhurjon explained to the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman, that his team had a  right to ascertain the origin, chain of custody and authenticity of the extradition documents on October 31, 2025. “So, in in fairness, your worship, we respectfully ask for some latitude, some leeway, to inquire into the circumstances surrounding the picking up of these documents, and what motivated this pickup, and and what records are there of the transmission and the chain of next custody of these documents.,” he told the court. The Mohameds are wanted by the US to face federal trial for alleged money laundering, wire fraud and mail fraud tied to their now closed gold trading business.

Responding to numerous suggestions and questions by Mr Dhurjon, Mr Narine said “I do not recall”.  Among them was from whom and at what time did he uplift the documents from the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Mr Narine recalled specific times he went to the Attorney General’s Chambers and other activities on October 31, 2025 but and said he recorded them in a pocketbook, notebook or personal diary. However, when Mr Dhurjon applied for disclosure of those documents about what transpired on October 31, 2025, Mr Narine said “because of intelligence, we cannot keep such records.”
