Police, carjackers in shootout; one nabbed

One of two carjackers was arrested and a stolen item recovered, following a shootout between police and the bandits.

The Guyana Police Force said in a statement that at about 2100h last night Tuesday June 16, 2015, taxi-driver Zaheer Khaleel, 22 years, of Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, was held up in the Housing Scheme by two men who had hired him, one of whom was armed with a firearm.

The perpetrators took away his cell phone and $10,000.00 and fled the scene.

Police ranks quickly responded to the report and confronted the suspects at Diamond Housing Scheme during which there was an exchange of gunfire, but no one was injured.

One of the suspects has been arrested and the stolen cell phone was found in his possession. The other suspect managed to escape
