OPINION: Charles Ramson, Jr. for president, not just yet

Last Updated on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, 5:28 by Written By Denis Chabrol

By GHK Lall

If I had the luck of Mr. Daniel Seeram, I would win the Lotto daily.  Better still, I would win the presidency of Guyana every time.  Admittedly, the bar is not high re attributes, since many jokers have aspired to and found themselves into that office.  By whatever means had to be employed.  Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo should be a reservoir of expertise in this regard.  But, Mr. Seeram!  I commend him for having all the nimbleness of a cat.  Toss him to the rafters and he lands on all fours.  Kick him to the curb and he rolls into a ball and comes to a safe stop.  Out of harm’s way.  A Guyanese with all the abilities of a fortuneteller (his own).  For the record, I wouldn’t want to have Mr. Seeram’s luck, for then a bum I would be.

A 13-month sentence for an explosion of domestic violence.  Sentence suspended.  Minister of Women Affairs and Keeper of Domestic Order, Hon Vindhya Persaud must have cursed under her breath.  But knowing how the politics works and plays out in this country, it is likely that she maintained her self-control, and didn’t lose her equilibrium.

But this fellow, Danny Seeram, I must get close to him.  It’s either he has all the luck in the world, or he has all the links that keep a bungee jumper afloat.  The luck I can understand.  I could use some, which rarely seems to come my way.  Such as the conveniences and considerations that are now woven in the Seeram Saga.  However, his links clearly reach far and they reach high.  The guy is almost like a suspension bridge: wires spread across a wide space, and no matter how much the load, or the shaking, he holds fast.  He emerges from crises in one piece.  Aside: congratulations to the PPP Govt for selection of a Guyanese with the combination of factors possessed by Mr. Seeram for the post of National Commander, Border Patrol Brigade. With a man like Seeram, whose tentacles reach seemingly to god, Guyana is safe from Venezuelan hordes.  The 13-month suspended sentence makes perfect sense.  Lock him away, throwaway the key, and the Venezuelans are not waiting for the ICJ or clearance from Trump.  They are heading across the Seeram-less and defenseless, Guyana border.  So that this point registers with Guyanese: a Seeram-less Guyana border is a defenseless Guyana border.

The PPP Govt waited and got what it wanted.  The court deliberated, with its part delivered.  Of course, there’s a condition: he gets out of line, and he goes down the line.  Consider that as the fine print.  Has no relevance nor gravity.  Who’s going to keep tabs on that baby?  Who’s going to take a risk and report that, when a man of Mr. Seeram’s muscle is on the wrong side of an exchange?  And, who in the star-studded firmament of Guyana’s keepers of the law is going to try their hand at enforcing any breach, as alleged?  Mr. Seeram seemingly has more to him than catlike skills.  The man is made of Teflon: nothing sticks to him.  Not even a jail sentence.

The women in Guyana are going to go on the warpath.  The men jailed for long stretches for their domestic excesses should appeal their sentences.  Equal application of the law.  What goes for Seeram must go for them, too.  If they have the right addresses and cellphone numbers, it’s as good as done.  If they don’t, then stop the whining and bellyaching and take punishment like a man.  Among the men of Guyana, there can be none more manly.  He declared one war, got embroiled in a second, has the last laff with a third.  And walked away with a 13-month suspended sentence for all of his battle scars.  In Daniel Seeram, Guyana just found its newest PPP Govt superhero.  The rule of law is tops.  I must find some balm to offer Guyana’s unconnected and unknowns, those the government dismisses as losers.
