A gold miner was killed Friday when a quantity of loose earth collapsed on him while he was operating mining equipment under water, police said.
The dead man has been identified as 64-year old Anton Thomas of Kamarang. The incident occurred at about 11:45 AM on May 29, 2015 at Quimenang River, Upper Mazaruni.
The body is at the Kamarang Hospital awaiting an autopsy.
Anton’s death occurred 12 days after 10 miners were killed at Pepper Creek, Konawaruk when a gold mining pit caved in an buried them. Several others were injured.
Police are investigating both incidents.
