A 19-year old Venezuelan man was arrested on Sunday allegedly with a 9MM pistol and eight rounds of ammunition on the Lusignan railway embankment, police said Monday.
The Guyana Police Force said in a statement that the man, who lives in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was spotted at about 6:30 PM with what appeared to be a bulky object in his pants waist. ”
As ranks approached, the suspect was seen removing a black object, which appeared to be a handgun, from his pants waist and throwing it to the ground beside him,” police said.
The object was retrieved and found to be the suspected gun and ammunition
Investigators said they asked the man if he was the holder of a firearm licence and reportedly stated that he was not.
The man was arrested and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station along with the suspected firearm and ammunition, which were lodged.
