A 28-year-old construction worker of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara was stabbed to death in his village by another man with whom he was consuming alcohol, the Guyana Police Force said on Sunday.
Police said the suspect remained at large, as investigations continued into the death of Curtis Bengochea of Eighth Street, Ivan Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Police were informed that the incident occurred on Saturday night, April 18, at about 10:30 at First Street, Ivan Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
At the time of the incident, Bengochea, the assailant and other persons were imbibing when an argument ensued.
“During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked the deceased. The men subsequently ended up in a nearby drain, where a scuffle reportedly continued before they were separated by other persons at the scene.
Shortly after, the deceased was pulled from the drain and a wound was observed to his left-side ribs area, while the suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot,” police said in a statement.
Bengochea was later transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
