A woman was shot to her right leg and thigh by her ex-partner while she was seated in her car at Islington village, East Bank Berbice late Saturday afternoon , police said.
“The victim alleged that on the date and time mentioned, she was in her motor car when the suspect approached her with a handgun, discharged several rounds in her direction and struck her to the head with the said handgun,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.
Police alleged that the man discharged the firearm with intent at about 4:50 PM on a 27-year-old self-employed woman of the said address, involving a 28-year-old unemployed male of Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice.
Police said the woman was taken to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital where she was seen, examined, and admitted by a doctor on duty with suspected gunshot injuries to her right leg and thigh.
Her condition was listed as stable.
A spent shell was recovered from the victim’s motor car, which was processed as part of the investigation. Police said the suspect has not yet been arrested and was being sought as investigations continue.
