Two residents of Prospect, East Bank Demerara early on Thursday morning lost their lives when the speeding car in which they were travelling collided head on with a minibus on the Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara, the Guyana Police Force said.

Michel Daniels, was 21 and Miguel Daniels was 23.

However, the names of the injured survivors were not released by police.

Investigators were told that at about 5:30 on Thursday morning, a car, bearing licence number PAC 9853, driven by a 23-year-old man of Moruca, was allegedly travelling east along the Union Public Road where the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

Police said the car ended up on the southern side of the road and collided with the minibus (BWW 4493), which was proceeding along that side of the road.

Additionally, police said a motorcar, with licence number PAE 4787, driven by a 23-year-old man of Providence, East Bank Demerara, was proceeding behind a minibus (BWW 4493) driven by a 39-year-old man of Harlem, West Coast Demerara.

“After the collision between the motor car and the minibus, its driver reportedly swerved, collided with the left rear of the minibus, and veered to the corner of the road,” police added.

Police also said that as a result of the collision, the driver and occupants of motorcar PAC 9853, along with the driver of minibus BWW 4493, one passenger of the minibus and the driver of motor car PAE 4787, were injured.

According to the police force, the injured were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

The Daniels were pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

Police said CCTV footage was obtained for review.
