City businessman plans to leave Guyana if PPPC wins again

A prominent city businessman, disgruntled by the way Guyana is being run, announced in Canada that he and other entrepreneurs planned to pack up and leave if the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) wins again.

Owner of Action Tyre, Ron Persaud told a breakfast meeting in Canada between the opposition coalition’s two top candidates and Guyanese there that the country’s environment was no longer conducive.

Persaud, who has been following the coalition’s meetings in the United States and Canada, said “he would leave Guyana if there is no change in government.”  He added that he was aware of other businessmen present who would do likewise because they are fed up of the corruption and nepotism. 

“If you don’t align yourself with the PPP and government you can get nothing from them. I never left Guyana was a taxi driver and now, as a businessman, I would leave if there is no change,” he told Demerara Waves Online News. Persaud added that he was fed up of the money that the government has allegedly stolen from the treasury and he forecast that they would eventually lose all like then President of the Phillipines, Ferdinand Marcos.

A number of Guyanese businessmen have been quietly expressing concern about unfair competition and the dumping of cheap and substandard goods by mainly Chinese businesses.

Well-known hotelier and rice miller, Robert Badal is on record as having little or no faith in the organised business community through institutions like the umbrella Private Sector Commission (PSC).  Several top PSC officials in recent times appeared to have been extremely cozy with the PPPC-led administration.

Veteran influential businessman, Yesu Persaud was Sunday quoted in the privately-owned Kaieteur News newspaper as saying that he wanted to see a change, but he stopped short of endorsing any political party. “I hope there is a change because change is inevitable…and if you have a change, you have to have a Government that is determined… (and has) unquestionable sincerity in what they do.  Otherwise we going nowhere,” he was quoted as saying. He wants the new government to take steps to address what is regarded as widespread corruption in Guyana.

A Partnership for National Unity+ Alliance For Change (APNU+ AFC) Presidential candidate, David Granger and his Prime Ministerial running-mate, Moses Nagamootoo addressed the breakfast meeting that was held in Brampton, Greater Toronto.

APNU+ AFC have been on fund-raisers to North America in recent weeks.
