PPPC PM candidate says she is being blackmailed to settle her son’s case

Ambassador Elisabeth Harper

People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) Prime Ministerial Candidate, Elisabeth Harper Thursday dubbed revelations about her son’s indebtedness to two foreign investors as “blackmail” and heaped scorn on efforts to muscle a resolution through her political selection.

“I strongly reject any attempt to use my political appointment to resolve this matter extra judicially or to influence the legal direction of the court case,” said Harper in a statement issued through the PPP.

She reconfirmed that the matter against her son, Reagan Pollard, is before the court since November 2014, suggesting that she would not get into the details.

Harper- a Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs up to the end of March, 2015- is the guarantor for a US$3 million loan. The amount of money was previously wired into her son’s bank account and he registered a company to invest the cash in the mining sector.

“I love my son dearly and am fully supportive of him.  I also respect his business independence,” she said.

After the investment opportunity fell through, the investors agreed to convert their invested sums as a loan to be repaid within a specified period.

Sources have told Demerara Waves Online News that, contrary to the investors, there is evidence that tranches have been wired to the investors.

Harper said the several attempts of extortion and blackmail directed at her regarding that case are disturbing. “Since I have been appointed as the PPP/C Prime Ministerial Candidate there have been attempts by a known individual, tantamount to blackmail or political extortion regarding a legal dispute between my 36-year old son and his former business partners,” she added in the statement.

Harper also released two email in which the person told her that “APNU/AFC are offering me US$5 million to expose you and your son…what say you?” and “I will wait for his response. But time is scarce. We don’t have too many options left. We will pull the trigger if we need to. We need our obligation satisfied ASAP.”
