The manager of a restaurant on Smyth Street, Georgetown was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of more than GY$600,000 as she was about to enter her car, the Guyana Police Force said.
The alleged robbery occurred at about 9:58 p.m. just outside the restaurant.
The woman, 34, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, told police that she had moments before collected the daily sales from the restaurant and placed the cash into a bag.
“As she entered her motor car, which was parked in front of the establishment, she was approached by an unidentified male who opened the driver’s side door, pointed a handgun at her and relieved her of a quantity of cash amounting to $642,000 Guyana currency before fleeing the scene on foot,” police said.
Police said they would review CCTV footage in the area.
Already, police have contacted and questioned several persons.
