The Aris IV

The Greece-made ferry, ARIS IV, has arrived in Guyana and will soon serve the Parika-Supenaam route, President Irfaan Ali said on Thursday night.

“The ARIS IV has arrived in Guyana after completing an impressive 5,200-nautical-mile journey and will soon begin servicing the Parika–Supenaam route,” he said in a post on his Facebook page.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that the vessel, which was built in 2020, was acquired by the Guyana government at a cost of 3.8 million Euros (approximately US$4.4 million).

The roll-on/roll-off ferry will join the fleet being operated by the Transport and Harbours Department.

The website, Shipax, reported that the 827 GT ARIS IV measures 58.8 metres in length overall, has a beam of 15.7 metres, and a deadweight capacity of 550 tonnes.

In recent years, the Transport and Harbours Department has acquired ferries, MV Kanawan and MV Sabanto from China and the MV Ma Lisha from India.
