Two teenagers from Diamond, East Bank Demerara were up to Sunday still in police custody in connection with the shooting death of political activist, Courtney Crum-Ewing.

Among the theories being explored for the killing is that the perpetrators had considered his use of a loud hailer to urge people to vote a noise nuisance.

Crum-Ewing was gunned down at about 8 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 on Third Street, Diamond, East Bank Demerara. His loud hailer was next to his lifeless body.

Sources said one of the youths exited a vehicle and shot the activist at point-blank range.

His killing has sparked off a debate in some quarters that his death might have been politically motivated.

Presidential Candidate for the opposition coalition David Granger on Sunday strongly suggested that Crum-Ewing’s killing was politically motivated by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).

President Donald Ramotar, the opposition coalition of A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) , Roman Catholic Church and the Guyana Human Rights Association (GHRA) have all condemned the killing and called for a thorough probe.
