A 17-year-old man was allegedly stabbed death by one of his co-workers while they were working on a drainage project at Loo Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, the Guyana Police Force said on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Gaurav Bhagwan of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Police have since arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old man from La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast in connection with the incident that occurred at about 9:30 on Saturday night.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that Bhagwan and several co-workers were part of a team engaged in a road and drainage project, in the area. During the evening, one of the workers reportedly heard a loud scream and upon checking, discovered Bhagwan lying motionless, with what appeared to be stab wounds about his body,” police said in a statement.
Police also said the suspect was seen nearby and was restrained by his colleagues until the arrival of the police.
Bhagwan was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
