A Leonora, West Coast Demerara taxi driver was earlier this week charged and imprisoned for almost 22 kilogrammes of cocaine for trafficking on David Street, Kitty, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said on Friday.
The anti-drug agency said Raul Binand pleaded not guilty to the offence of possession of 21.972 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
He was refused bail and remanded t0 prison until July 11, 2025 by City Magistrate, Annette Singh.
CANU said they intercepted his motorcar on Wednesday, June 11 and a search unearthed several parcels containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.
According to CANU, “the suspects were arrested”, but no mention was made about the involvement of others.
