9,500 eligible voters transfer home addresses ahead of general elections

Last Updated on Saturday, 14 June 2025, 18:40 by Writer

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Saturday said it would be conducting a claims and objections exercise, commencing on 16 June 2025. The claims aspect of the exercise will conclude on 18 June 2025.

In this regard, GECOM had given notice that its registration offices countrywide will open at 08:00 hours and close at 18:00 hours.

However, in anticipation of an influx of eligible persons desirous of conducting registration transactions, GECOM says it has taken a decision to extend the closing time for the conduct of registration transactions on June 16, 17 and 18, 2025 from 18:00 hours to 20:00 hours.

Against this backdrop, the general public is being notified that the official hours for all GECOM registration offices on June 16, 17 and 18 will be from 08:00 hours (8am) to 20:00 hours (8pm)

Any person who would be 18 years or older by 30 June, 2025 and is a Guyanese citizen by birth, descent, or naturalization or is a citizen from a Commonwealth country living in Guyana for one year or more is eligible for inclusion in the Official List of Electors (OLE) to be used for the conduct of General and Regional Elections 2025, GECOM said.

In view of the foregoing, GECOM also takes this opportunity to advise all eligible persons that on the days above and during the stated hours they can visit the GECOM Registration Office that is responsible for the area where they live to make a claim to entry on the OLE, if his or her name is not on the list, by applying for registration.

Persons already on the list can also apply for a transfer if he or she is listed at an address where he or she no longer lives, apply for a change of name if such has been changed since registration or apply for correction if there is incorrect information in the PLE, GECOM said.
