Ministry of Education working to ensure “smooth and effective” CSEC, CAPE on polling day

Last Updated on Thursday, 22 January 2015, 21:30 by GxMedia

Amid concerns that the holding of general and regional elections would disrupt the smooth holding of Caribbean Secondary Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency (CAPE) examinations, the Ministry of Education Thursday afternoon assured that the matter is being addressed.

“The Ministry wishes to assure all its stakeholders and all citizens that every consideration is being given to the smooth and effective sitting of the 2015 CSEC and CAPE examinations and as such, is in consultations with the Caribbean Examinations Council and other stakeholders to discuss and derive a suitable plan, one that is in the best interest of the candidates,” said the Ministry in a statement.

Exams for several subjects are scheduled for May 11, 2015- the same day that Guyanese would vote at more than 2,000 polling stations countrywide. Many public schools are used as polling stations.

The Ministry of Education says it is cognizant that there exists among some parents and candidates some concerns about the CSEC and CAPE examinations.

Details will be forthcoming as the Ministry finalizes its plan for the sitting of the CSEC and CAPE examinations on May 11, the Ministry said.

Superintendent of Examinations at the Ministry of Education, Sauda Kadir has said that the date for the exams is set by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and cannot be changed locally.
