A protester was shot dead by police on Tuesday during efforts to disperse a group of persons who were venting their anger against the police shooting of a young man on Monday in Linden.
“The rounds discharged at the protesters caused the demise of a protester,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.

There are different accounts surrounding the police shooting death of 26-year-old Ronaldo Peters who was wanted for the alleged rape of a child under 16 years old. The Police account so far suggested that the man was accidentally shot during efforts to arrest him. “It is further alleged by the Sergeant that he managed to pull off Ronaldo Peters from the fence and in the process of subduing him, his service pistol, which was his right hand, went off,” police said on Monday.
The sergeant has since been placed under close arrest.
