A fire on Saturday morning has severely damaged Critchlow Labour College (CLC), Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

The western section of the concrete and wooden structure was destroyed, while another section was badly damaged.

The building also housed the University of Excellence, Management and Business.

The CLC was once regarded as a major provider of quality education, with several of its programmes regarded as a stepping stone to higher education at the University of Guyana.
