A woman, who was allegedly arrested with 2.4 kilogrammes of cocaine earlier this week before she was due to board a flight to the United Kingdom, was Wednesday remanded to prison after she pleaded not guilty, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said.
Twenty-seven-year-old A’ishah McKenzie of 33 Savage Street, North East La Penitence, appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court for the offense of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
She was refused bail and remanded to prison until 5th March 2025.
CANU agents arrested the woman at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Monday, January 3.
CANU alleged that the cocaine was found during routine search on McKenzie, who was an outgoing passenger on flight BA2158 to Saint Lucia with an onward connection to Gatwick International Airport, London.
The cocaine weighed 2.468 kilogrammes, CANU said.
