A Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara-based goldsmith was Saturday afternoon robbed of GY$7 million worth of jewellery that he is working on, police said.
The name of the goldsmith, 54, was not disclosed, but police said the incident occurred at the goldsmith’s shop that is attached to his home at Clarke Street, Peter’s Hall.
He told police that two men, armed with handguns, entered his premises at about 5 p.m. through a glass sliding door and carted off the articles that he was working on to give to a customer later Saturday evening.
The items stolen are one 12 karat gold chain and pendant and one 12 karat gold band all of which amounted to 700 pennyweights, valued at GY$7 million.
“One of the suspects tied the victim’s hands and feet with zip ties, placed him under a table, took the above-mentioned articles and made good their escape in a white motor vehicle, license plate number unknown at this time.
The scene was processed and photographed and several persons in the area were questioned as investigations continued,” police said in a statement.
