Gold miner dies in Marudi pit cave-in

A gold miner was killed on Sunday when a mining pit caved in at Mazwa Mountain, Marudi, deep South Rupununi.

Confirmed dead is 56-year old Clifton Rodrigues of Aishalton, according to usually reliable sources.

The pit caved in and trapped three miners about 300 feet below the surface but, according to the sources, one of them managed to escape to safety.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that police, soldiers and technical personnel were  being deployed on a recovery mission.
