The defendant of 252 Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara denied the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The matter was transferred to Providence Court on July 15.
Customs Anti Narcotics unit (CANU) Prosecutor Oswald Massiah successfully objected to bail on the ground that no special reason was given to the Court.
The unrepresented man told the Court that he was previously sentenced to three years imprisonment on a similar matter, which ended in 2008.
Details of the charge stated that on Friday, July 4 at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri East Bank Demerara, he had in his possession 7.170 kg of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution’s facts are that the substance was allegedly found in two ghee tins and three milk tins.
CANU agents acting on information, contacted the defendant on the day in question, when he was already in the aircraft that was supposed to take him to New York.
