A Church’s Chicken maintenance worker was Monday arraigned on a charge of causing the death of a seven year old by dangerous driving.The alleged offender is 28-year old Jermaine Carroll of Stevedore Housing Scheme. He is accused of driving motor car, PPP 5931, in a manner dangerous to the public resulting in the death of seven-year old Clement Joseph Collis on June 12, 2014 on Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine Beharry, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence. He also pleaded not guilty to driving a vehicle without third-party insurance.
Carroll was remanded to prison until July 4.
Police said Carroll was driving the car at a fast rate when he struck down the boy who was standing on a concrete bridge leading to his year. The former student of St. Pius Primary School was pinned to the gate.
Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru opposed bail, saying that the accused was charged with several other minor offences but the police had up to recently failed to arrest him.
