Jealous man shoots taxi driver in buttocks

Last Updated on Tuesday, 10 June 2014, 19:59 by GxMedia

Paul Rose
A man, who allegedly shot a taxi driver in his buttocks the day after  he saw him drop off his child’s mother, was Tuesday remanded to prison on a charge of discharging a loaded firearm.

Paul Rose of 468 Sydney Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to discharging a firearm with intent to maim, disfigure or cause harm when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Rose allegedly committed the offence on April 23 at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt on Raul Braithwhaite.

Rose was refused bail and remanded to prison until June 20 when statements would be issued.

The Prosecution’s account is that Rose’s child usually travels with the taxi that Braithwhaite drives. On April 22, the woman asked Braithwhaite to take her on a return trip to a destination.

According to the prosecution, an argument erupted between the two when Rose saw the woman arrive at a location in the car. The following day, Braithwhaite was eating at Festival City when Rose allegedly pulled a gun a fired several shots at him.

Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru opposed bail, saying that they Rose and Braithwhaite are known to each other and the former was likely to tamper with the complainant.

The man was arrested last week Friday.
