Broadcaster Roger Moore dies

Last Updated on Friday, 6 June 2014, 9:53 by GxMedia

Roger Moore

Former radio and television broadcaster, Roger Moore died early Friday morning in the United Kingdom (UK) after a prolonged illness.

He was suffering from diabetes and several related complications including kidney failure.

Moore entered radio in the 1980s at the now defunct Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) where he served until after the change of government in 1992.

A harsh and outspoken critic against the Peoples Progressive Party Civic’s (PPPC) administration, Moore moved into television with his afternoon programme, “At Home With Roger” on HBTV Channel Nine.

Moore was the son of retired Education Officer, Olga Moore.

A relative of his reproduced Moore’s recent thoughts on his Facebook Profile.

I listened to the tribute dedicated to myself and I was honoured to be remembered this way. Iwould like to thank my supportive family for all they have done for me. My mother Olga and my brother Edward who brought his wife Nerlande and children Kaela and Edward from New Jersey and my sisters Deborah and Alison.

I want to remember four ladies who infuenced me in my formative years at GBC- Pat Cameron, Margaret Lawrence, Phyllis Jackson and Ave Brewster, and of course the late Terry Holder.

The GBC family was strong and vibrant until a little later after 1992 when the PPP took over. My other colleagues at GBC- Enrico Woolford , Robert Laljee, Orin Gordon, Basil Bradshaw and Margot Peters., Ronald and Keith Michael Austin, along with Dr Kean Gibson and Kamau and Colin Bascom.

Now I am transitioning to the side I must thank, l the hospital doctors and nurses.

The first person I expect to see is Old man Duncan Moore who along with my mother, Olga Moore who  laid the foundation of my living and education.

I will tell Dad what I was doing, next I will chat with Desmond Hoyte and Clem David and hold a conference about what is happening in Guyana.

I have no regrets. I did it my way .I love you all.
