A man, who was arrested in connection with an alleged assault, escaped from the Providence Police Station lock-up Sunday night and he was later recaptured, police sources confirmed.
Police said the prisoner escaped through a grill in the cell. He was later recaptured in the nearby Greenfield Park.
He is expected to be charged with escaping from lawful custody.
This latest escape came just about two weeks after four prisoners broke out of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court holding cell.
One of them was shot and killed during an alleged exchange of gunfire at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice and two others were recaptured were within 24 hours of their escape. One is still at large.
