Curator at the National Art Gallery, Ohene Koama told Demerara Waves Online News that the themed Panorama-Portrait of Guyana -‘coffee table’ magazine would be sent to airlines, the National Library, government ministries and other entities free of cost.
In the first year, 2,000 copies of the magazine will feature 52 of the estimated 1,200 art pieces at the gallery.
Koama hopes that the magazines would whet the appetite of the average Guyanese both here and in the Diaspora ,to visit exhibitions based opn their preferred themes. “The project aims to promote the National Collection. When the people themselves come and see the National Collection under different themes. It is also another way of reaching and educating people,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of GT&T, Rada Krishna Sharma said the phone company decided to fund the project to promote the awareness of art in Guyana. He informed that the monies will be given over a three year period.
Minister of Culture, Dr. Frank Anthony, in thanking the telephone company for its support, expressed that with the project comes the edification of persons in art .
