More than 12 employees of Qualfon Call Center, Goedverwagting/Plaisance were Tuesday afternoon rushed to the Georgetown Hospital suffering from respiratory problems and anxiety after a power outage shut down the entity’s air conditionining unit.
Power was later restored and operations at the Call Centre resumed with a limited staff because a number of agents opted to go home while others were seen in the yard relaxing.
Another source said that the Call Centre was struck by a power failure because the generators also stopped working after a loud explosion, resulting in no air conditioning being supplied to the complex.
A number of the employees vomited and fainted, while others had asthma attacks. While most of the affected employees left the Georgetown Hospital after receiving treatment, a number of others were kept for observation even as other ill employees trickled in up to late Tuesday night.
Demerara Waves Online News was told that the Goedverwagting/Plaisance location has no windows and only one entrance/exit. Management also prevents call service agents from leaving the premises once they are on shift.
Efforts to obtain an official comment from a company representative were unsuccessful.
