A Probation Officer in the North West District has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 13 year old girl, usually reliable sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The officer, who was arrested Wednesday afternoon, is expected to be transferred to Georgetown on Thursday to further assist investigators in their probe.
Said to be a devout religious person, the officer has been linked to several previous allegations but they have been kept “low”. The Sexual Offences Act prevents the disclosure of the identities of the alleged perpetrator and the victim.
A senior official of the Ministry of Human Services also confirmed that the man has been held in connection with the accusation that has been levelled against the Probation Officer.
Port Kaituma, which is located in the North West District, has been wracked in recent months by a spate of domestic violence incidents including a man burning his house with his wife and four children inside and the murder-suicide involving a husband and wife.
