Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh will not be charged in connection with a vehicular accident earlier this year because the victims said they no longer wished to pursue the matter, the police force said in a brief statement.
“The Guyana Police Force is informing the general public that legal advice has been obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions that no charge be instituted since the affected parties, Jaggernauth Hira and Parbattie Shivcharran, have stated that they no longer wish to pursue the matter,” said the police force in a statement.
The accident occurred on the night of February 23, 2014 at the corner of Delph Avenue and Garnett Street, Campbelville where the Finance Minister drove his vehicle and slammed into a taxi.
Hira and Shivcharran were injured. The car Hira was driving was badly damaged.
The Finance Minister left the scene without rendering personal assistance, but about half hour later, City businessman and ruling party candidate, Brian Youngm arrived on the scene and offered to settle the matter including medical expenses.
