A man allegedly attempted to burn a small house at Sophia with his reputed wife and several of their children inside, neighbours said.The incident occurred shortly after 8 PM at A Field, Sophia.
When fire fighters arrived on the scene, they assisted in bringing the flames under control and conducting an investigation.
The alleged perpetrator, Aubrey Mc Koy, fled the scene while his reputed wife, Bridget Aldridge, and a number of their children prevented their humble place of abode from being engulfed in flames.
Aldridge and 11 children lived there.
Only a mattress and a quantity of clothing were burnt. A number of items were water damaged and the walls of a part of the dwelling were blackened.
Relatives said Mc Koy allegedly turns up at the house late at nights or during pre-dawn hours and assaults Aldridge. โHer life could be at risk and he got away from the scene and they have to be really afraid to sleep here tonight so thatโs kind of sad,โ a neighbour told Demerara Waves Online News. Police did immediately arrive on the scene.
