Unmasked bandits on a motorcycle grabbed GUY$10 million from two Corentyne businessmen before they could have deposited it at Republic Bank’s Rose Hall Town branch early Wednesday morning, police sources confirmed.

One gunshot was fired at the scene during the course of the robbery and several others during their escape but no one was injured.

The robbery victims have been identified as 42-year old Ramlingum “Buddy” Permaul, owner of Permaul’s Snackette and Confectionery located at Albion Public Road, Corentyne, his brother 39-year Subramanie and their father Mangalie.

Sources said the incident occurred about 7:15 AM when the businessmen arrived in their vehicle at the bank. Investigators were told that the pillion rider snatched a bag containing GUY$3 million from Ramlingum and another bag containing GUY$7 million from Subramanie.

Although one of the bandits repeatedly fired several shots, Mangalie chased the men until he could have gone no further due to the deplorable condition of the road.  The men escaped through a cemetery and eventually into the back-lands.

There, the motorcycle was found abandoned.
