Trio charged with armed robbery at gold miner’s house

Appearing before City Magistrate, Judy Latchman were 23-year old Peter Mc Kenzie of 298 Meadow Brook Gardens; 19-year old Anikie Rogers of 195 Meadow Brook Gardens and 35-year old Alana Taylor of 212 East Ruimveldt.

They are accused of robbing Elizabeth Hendricks on March 2,2014 at Lime Street of one BLU cellular phone, one gold ring, one handbag, one laptop and three Blackberry chargers that together value GUY$341,000. They allegedly committed the offence while being armed with a gun.

They were not required to plea to the indictable offence. Police Prosecutor, Vishnu Hunt did not object to bail for Taylor, saying that she was mistakenly charged. Hunt said the woman knew the robbery victim and she would be used as a witness.

No facts in the case were read in court.

Magistrate Latchman refused the trio bail and remanded them to prison until March 7, 2014.

The Prosecutor, however, objected to bail for Mc Kenzie and Rogers on grounds of the seriousness of the offence and that was a weapon was used to commit the offence.

Hunt said Taylor and Hendricks are friends for several years. However, the information was already sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions and so Taylor was charged with the offence.

Taylor’s lawyer, Mark Waldron, told the court that police were quite aware that Taylor was not associated with Mc Kenzie and Rogers.

The accused men’s lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat, told the court that Mc Kenzie was previously employed by Hendricks for two months at her gold mining pit. He failed in his bid to secure bail for his clients on the basis that there was no evidence to implicate them in the robbery.
