Suspected Essequibo Coast burglar caught with booty at Parika

A man, who allegedly carted off GUY$3.3 million in cash, jewellery and other valuables from a home on the Essequibo Coast, was snatched by police at the Parika Market with some of the booty.

The robbery victim is 45-year old Gordon Williams if Perseverance, Essequibo Coast. He was not injured.

Police said that about 4:45 Wednesday morning, Williams awoke and found that his home had been broken into.
 
A man was seen in the house who was confronted by Williams, but he managed to escape. Police force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said a check revealed that jewellery, cash and a cell phone to the total value of GUY$3.3M were stolen.
 
Police said diligent investigations led to the arrest of a suspect at the Parika Market, East Bank Essequibo, who has been positively identified by the victim.
 
Whittaker said most of the stolen jewellery, the cell phone and GUY$13,900.00 were recovered by the police. The perpetrator is in police custody and will be charged accordingly.
