Thieves cart off KFC’s safe, video surveillance system

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 20:59 by GxMedia

The area from where the safe was blow torched and removed from the KFC Bagotstown outlet
Thieves early Tuesday morning carted off close to GUY$1 million in cash and equipment from the KFC outlet at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

Managing Director, Deo Singh said the burglars blow-torched a metal safe from the ground where it was bolted down and carted it off with at least GUY$700,000.

Singh said the thieves also took away with the video surveillance recorder, valued at GUY$100,000 making it impossible for investigators to identify the perpetrators.

The KFC official said he believed that the thieves gained entry to the building by climbing through the window of the drive-thru, before breaking into the office and ripping out the entire safe that contained the cash from the Monday’s sale.

He said the burglary  could have occurred about 4 AM, long after the fast food outlet was closed. The guard, he said, told investigators that he saw no one.

Employees realised that there was a theft about 8 AM Tuesday when they arrived for duty and saw the office door ajar.

“Nobody wants to work for anything. That’s the new society. It’s not easy doing business,” said the KFC Managing Director.
