A 16-year old boy was shot during a failed robbery at a money-changer’s home at Number 69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, residents said.
Police sources confirmed that the lad, only known as Umo, was shot and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital for treatment. However, investigators said nothing was stolen.
The incident occurred about 8 PM at the residence of the foreign exchange trader only known as ‘Ole Daag’. He changes currencies at the Corentyne Market.
No one has been held by police.
This is the second money changer to have been attacked in less than 24 hours, the first being 42-year old Bridgelall Persaud who was shot dead while driving his car on Lombard Street, Georgetown on Thursday morning.
The bandits grabbed a bag containing GUY$1 million and escaped on a motorcycle. Four hours later on Church Street near the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Sunil Ramesh was shot twice and a bag containing GUY$150,000 and important documents was snatched from his wife, Anjanie.
