Old Year’s Night murder accused for High Court trial

The man who allegedly shot dead his ex girlfriend outside KFC, Water Street on Old Year’s Night 2013 was Tuesday committed to stand trial for murder by a judge and jury.

The decision was handed down by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to Jermaine Maynard.

He is accused of the murder of 20 year old Carlissa Matthews two months after they had severed a relationship.

The Preliminary Inquiry, which began on February 10, saw 12 witnesses testifying for the State. Maynard was represented by Attorney-at-Law George Thomas.

He was arrested several days after the offence at Springlands back track shortly before attempting to flee Guyana.
