City Magistrate Fabayo Azore imposed the sentence on Mark Mangal, a husband and father of two, for break and enter and larceny.
Police accused him of committing the offence on September 26 at the David Street, Kitty residence of Paul Booker.
Prosecutor Police Corporal Renetta Bentham told the court that Booker secured his home and left. On his return, Booker told police that he found a window opened and when he checked he noticed that the items were missing.
Mangal and another man, police said, were seen later the same day in Booker’s yard fetching away the items.
The Magistrate, before handing down the custodial sentence, told Mangal that she believed the prosecution’s facts and so he was found guilty.
Reacting, Mangal said he found it unbelievable that he was sentenced to jail for a crime he did not commit.
