A policeman was Sunday afternoon chopped about his body allegedly by a neighbour in an ongoing disagreement.
Injured is Constable, Audwin Amsterdam of De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara.
He was chopped to his back and knees by a man named Randy Sealey who has been since arrested. Amsterdam is attached to the Brickdam Police Station where he is a member of the bike patrol.
Amsterdam, who was conscious, was expected to undergo surgery and admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
His mother, Jewel Amsterdam, recalled that her son was cleaning his car light about 3 PM when Sealey allegedly aimed for the policeman’s neck but struck his back because he moved quickly. She said when her son fell in his yard, Sealey ran behind and allegedly chopped his knees.
She claimed that a police officer had advocated loudly that Amsterdam’s neck should have been chopped off instead.
The woman told Demerara Waves Online News that the incident stemmed from a long-running disagreement between the two neighbouring families.
Relatives said senior officers on the West Coast Demerara and at ‘A” Division have been aware of the long running battle between Sealey and the Amsterdams who live opposite each other.
