Muri Brasil scraps plans for survey in New River Triangle

Muri Brasil Ventures Incorporatedon Saturday announced that it has scrapped plans to conduct a geographicl and geophysical survey in the New River Triangle due to concerns being raised about the project in several quarters.

The decision came just about two weeks after Transport Minister, Robeson Benn announced that the company has been refused permission to build an airstrip in the area. Benn has confirmed that the existing government policy is that there would be no mining in the area.

Spokesman for the company, Alex Grahaam on Saturday told Demerara Waves that while the airtsrip was critical to the project logistically it was not the major deciding factor.

Muri Brasil said t decided on December 30 no longego ahead with the work under the PGGS granted to the company.

“Although the process was legal and transparent, this decision is due to the misinformation, prejudice and hostility to this proposed survey by persons and agencies which are fostering an adverse investment climate in Guyana,” the company said in a statement.

Muri thanked all of those who supported this project and who are in support of the development of Guyana.

Controversy swirled around the project after Minister of Natural Resources, Robert Persaud had failed to volunteer information that a PGGS had been granted to the company. At that time, he had been grilled by A Partnership for National Unity’s Joseph Harmon at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on Natural Resources.
