Three men-including a mechanic- were Friday arraigned on separate charges of receiving a stolen car and car parts.
They were refused bail and remanded to prison until December 5 when they appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Police accused 19-year old Randy Garrett of 20988 Nutmeg Street, Festival City and 21-year old Brian Jones of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop of receiving one Toyota Premio valued GUY$3.3 million property of Robena Khan knowing it to be stolen or falsely obtained.
Defence Lawyer, Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat denied his clients knowledge of the motor car being a stolen vehicle. The lawyer said Garrett had no previous problems with the law but Jones was on bail in connection with a matter involving city businessman Malcolm Panday.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte objected to bail on the grounds of the penalty for the charge and the offence was allegedly committed while Jones was on bail for another offence.
In a separate charge, mechanic 40-year old Adrian De Souza of 35 Campbell Avenue, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to receiving a number of vehicle parts valued GUY$1.2 million.
Defence Lawyer Jerome Khan’s application for bail was turned down.
He told the court that persons usually supply De Souza with parts and in this instance the suppliers were known to him. The parts are one Toyota Premio engine, one transmission and one computer box.
The lawyer told the court that investigators went to the mechanic saying that they were looking for several parts and he allowed them entry to his garage.
Khan said that the police came to De Souuza and told him that they were looking for some parts. He then took then to his garage they were.
