Suspected drunken driver hits down Stella Maris students

Three students of Stella Maris Primary School were struck down in Kitty by a suspected drunken driver who was immediately arrested by public spirited citizens.

The 11-year old children were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a conscious condition but crying out for serious pains about their bodies.

Students Ebitoya Pilgrim, Shamar Lesperance and Kisi Carter were walking in the company of a teacher on Station Street, Kitty near Seeta’s Bar when they were struck down. Pilgrim sustained a puncture wound to his neck.

After hitting down the children, the car toppled in a nearby drain. The driver was handed over to the police who responded to an emergency call.

An eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, recalled seeing one of the children crawling out from under the overturned car. “These kids walking in the corner, along with the teacher, and the speed that he pulled out with is like he just press all the ‘X’ (accelerator) and he wasn’t looking around what was coming,” he said.

The driver is said to be a frequent customer of Seeta’s Bar.

The teacher accompanied the students, along with their book bags, to the GPHC while persons at the hospital assisted in calling the students’ parents.
