Truck falls off Bartica-bound MV Makouria

The truck fell overboard in the vicinity of the yellow dot between the two boats

A truck ran off the MV Makouria and sank in the Essequibo River as the ferry vessel was departing for Bartica Saturday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 AM. A Transport and Harbours official said no one was missing.

Preliminary reports are that the Canter truck, GLL 7958 owned by Bartica businessman Dino, burst the chain near one of the gangways and fell into channel.

Eyewitnesses and officials said the truck ran off the vessel as it was turning away from the Parika stelling.
